| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 1290

| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 1290 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | "Section 5. The Statute on Statutes is amended by adding | ||||||
| 5 | Section 1.44 as follows:
| ||||||
| 6 | (5 ILCS 70/1.44 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 1.44. Honorably discharged; veterans benefits. In | ||||||
| 8 | determining the meaning of any statute or rule or | ||||||
| 9 | interpretation by the various administrative agencies of this | ||||||
| 10 | State, for purposes of determining eligibility for any | ||||||
| 11 | veterans benefit available from the State, the words | ||||||
| 12 | "honorable discharge" and "honorably discharged" include a | ||||||
| 13 | discharge under other than honorable conditions or general | ||||||
| 14 | discharge under honorable conditions due to a person's sexual | ||||||
| 15 | orientation or gender identity but does not include a bad | ||||||
| 16 | conduct discharge or a dishonorable discharge.".
