Bill Title: Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that if a bill or other legislative measure is sponsored or co-sponsored by a majority of the members elected to the chamber in which the bill or other legislative measure then resides, then that bill or other legislative measure must be referred by the Rules Committee of that chamber to a standing committee and a vote on that bill or other legislative measure must be taken by that standing committee within 6 session days or prior to any committee action or floor action deadline that has been imposed in that chamber, whichever is sooner.

25 ILCS 10/8 new

Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that if a bill or other legislative measure is sponsored or co-sponsored by a majority of the members elected to the chamber in which the bill or other legislative measure then resides, then that bill or other legislative measure must be referred by the Rules Committee of that chamber to a standing committee and a vote on that bill or other legislative measure must be taken by that standing committee within 6 session days or prior to any committee action or floor action deadline that has been imposed in that chamber, whichever is sooner.

1 AN ACT concerning the legislature.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The General Assembly Operations Act is amended
5 by adding Section 8 as follows:
6 (25 ILCS 10/8 new)
7 Sec. 8. Legislative measures; majority of members sponsor.
8 If a bill or other legislative measure is sponsored or
9 co-sponsored by a majority of the members elected to the
10 chamber in which the bill or other legislative measure then
11 resides, then that bill or other legislative measure must be
12 referred by the Rules Committee of that chamber to a standing
13 committee and a vote on that bill or other legislative measure
