1 AN ACT concerning advisory referenda.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
5 9-1 and by adding Section 9-1.2 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/9-1) (from Ch. 122, par. 9-1)
7 Sec. 9-1. Scope of article. All school elections shall be
8 governed by the general election law of the State, except as
9 otherwise provided in Section 9-1.2.

12 Sec. 9-1.2. Advisory referenda. By a vote of the majority
13 of the members of the school board, the board may authorize an
14 advisory question of public policy to be placed on the ballot
15 at the next regularly scheduled election in the school
16 district. The school board shall certify the question to the
17 proper election authority, which must submit the question at an
18 election in accordance with the Election Code.
