SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
10 ILCS 5/29-12.5 new

Amends the Election Code. Prohibits county clerks and members of boards of election commissioners from making public endorsements of candidates and public questions when the candidates' names and the questions appear on ballots solely of political subdivisions within their election jurisdiction. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning election officials.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section
529-12.5 as follows:
6 (10 ILCS 5/29-12.5 new)
7 Sec. 29-12.5. Political endorsements by election
8officials. No county clerk or member of a board of election
9commissioners may publicly endorse any candidate for a public
10office or any public question when the candidate's name or the
11question appears on ballots solely in political subdivisions
12within the jurisdiction of that election authority and not
13elsewhere in the State. This prohibition includes but is not
14limited to print and broadcast endorsements.
