Bill Title: Amends the Public Community College Act. Provides that the Illinois Community College Board shall, in cooperation with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, develop an academic program to (i) grant students a certification to become a law enforcement officer or firefighter and (ii) grant those students an associate degree. Provides that in order to be admitted into the academic program, a student shall have completed a public safety or fire safety career and technical education course in high school.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Public Community College Act is amended by
5adding Section 2-27 as follows:
6 (110 ILCS 805/2-27 new)
7 Sec. 2-27. Law enforcement officer and firefighter
8academic program.
9 (a) The State Board shall, in cooperation with the
10Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, develop an
11academic program to (i) grant students a certification to
12become a law enforcement officer or firefighter and (ii) grant
13those students an associate degree.
14 (b) A board may implement the academic program developed
15under subsection (a).
16 (c) In order to be admitted into an academic program under
17subsection (a), a student shall have completed a public safety
18or fire safety career and technical education course in high
19school.
