1 | AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
5 | changing Section 3-645 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (625 ILCS 5/3-645)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 3-645. Vietnam Veteran License Plates.
| ||||||
8 | (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the | ||||||
9 | Secretary, upon
receipt of all applicable fees and | ||||||
10 | applications made in the form prescribed by
the Secretary of | ||||||
11 | State, may issue Vietnam Veteran license plates to residents
| ||||||
12 | of Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by | ||||||
13 | the Secretary of
State. Veterans who served in active duty | ||||||
14 | status during the Vietnam war but were not deployed to Vietnam | ||||||
15 | for combat are also eligible for Vietnam Veteran license | ||||||
16 | plates. The special Vietnam Veteran plate issued under this | ||||||
17 | Section shall be
affixed only to passenger vehicles of the | ||||||
18 | first division, motorcycles, and
motor vehicles of the second | ||||||
19 | division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.
Plates issued | ||||||
20 | under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
| ||||||
21 | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this | ||||||
22 | Code.

23 | (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |

| |||||||
1 | wholly
within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The | ||||||
2 | Secretary may, in his or
her discretion, allow the plates to be | ||||||
3 | issued as vanity plates or personalized
in accordance with | ||||||
4 | Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required
to | ||||||
5 | designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) | ||||||
6 | of Section
3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe | ||||||
7 | the eligibility requirements
and, in his or her discretion, | ||||||
8 | shall approve and prescribe stickers or decals
as provided | ||||||
9 | under Section 3-412.
