Bill Title: Amends the General Assembly Operations Act. Provides that no person may serve more than a total of 8 years in any one of the following offices or more than a combined total of 12 years in any 2 or more of the following offices: Speaker of the House of Representatives, President of the Senate, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, and Minority Leader of the Senate. Provides that the limitations imposed by the amendatory Act apply to service beginning on and after the second Wednesday in January of 2023.

1 | AN ACT concerning State government.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The General Assembly Operations Act is amended | |||||||||||||||||||
5 | by adding Section 1.5 as follows:

6 | (25 ILCS 10/1.5 new) | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 1.5. Term limits for legislative leaders. | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, no person may | |||||||||||||||||||
9 | serve more than a total of 8 years in any one of the following | |||||||||||||||||||
10 | offices or more than a combined total of 12 years in any 2 or | |||||||||||||||||||
11 | more of the following offices: Speaker of the House of | |||||||||||||||||||
12 | Representatives, President of the Senate, Minority Leader of | |||||||||||||||||||
13 | the House of Representatives, or Minority Leader of the | |||||||||||||||||||
14 | Senate. The limitations imposed by this amendatory Act of the | |||||||||||||||||||
