Bill Title: Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that deputies and clerks appointed by a county assessor in a county with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants shall be appointed with the advice and consent of the county board. Provides that their compensation is to be fixed by the county board and paid by the county. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning revenue.
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
5 | Section 3-65 as follows:

7 | Sec. 3-65.
Deputy county assessors - Counties of less than | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
8 | 3,000,000
with elected assessor. The county assessor in | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
9 | counties with less than 3,000,000
inhabitants which elect a | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
10 | county assessor under Section 3-45 may appoint , with the advice | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
11 | and consent of the county board, as
many suitable persons as in | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
12 | his or her judgment are necessary to act as
deputies and | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
13 | clerks, their compensation to be fixed by the county board and | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
14 | paid by the county , who shall perform the duties assigned to | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
15 | them by the county assessor.
They shall hold their office at | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
16 | the will of the county assessor , and shall
receive compensation | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
17 | determined by the assessor to be paid out of the county
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
18 | treasury . Such deputy assessors shall, before entering upon | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
19 | their duties, take
the oath or affirmation prescribed for the | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
20 | assessors.

21 | In counties with less than 3,000,000 inhabitants which | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
22 | elect a county
assessor under Section 3-45, in all townships | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
23 | not lying completely within the
limits of one city, the |

1 | township assessor shall be ex-officio the deputy
assessor to | ||||||
2 | make the assessments in the township where he or she is | ||||||
3 | elected.
If, in any township, the township assessor shall not | ||||||
4 | be able, by himself or
herself within the time allowed by law, | ||||||
5 | to make the assessment of the township,
any additional deputy | ||||||
6 | assessors required to make the assessment shall be
residents | ||||||
7 | and legal voters of that township, and shall be nominated by | ||||||
8 | the
township's board of trustees and appointed by the county | ||||||
9 | assessor only upon
that nomination. Deputy assessors so | ||||||
10 | appointed shall act under the supervision
of the ex-officio | ||||||
11 | deputy town assessors.
