Bill Title: Amends the Fire Departments and Protection Division of the Municipal Code and the Fire Protection District Act. Provides that municipalities and fire protection districts may fix, charge, and collect reasonable fees from residents for any response, time, or services to residents for nonemergency calls for services rendered by a fire protection district. Defines "nonemergency calls for services" for the purposes of the provisions.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | |||||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by | |||||||||||||||||||||
5 | adding Section 11-6-12 as follows:

7 | Sec. 11-6-12. Reimbursement for nonemergency calls. | |||||||||||||||||||||
8 | (a) For the purposes of this Section, "nonemergency calls | |||||||||||||||||||||
9 | for services" are calls for ambulance or emergency services | |||||||||||||||||||||
10 | that are not considered medical emergencies, do not concern a | |||||||||||||||||||||
11 | threat to life, health, or property and do not otherwise | |||||||||||||||||||||
12 | correspond to any billing code for emergency response | |||||||||||||||||||||
13 | services. | |||||||||||||||||||||
14 | (b) A municipality may fix, charge, and collect reasonable | |||||||||||||||||||||
15 | fees from residents for any response, time, or services to | |||||||||||||||||||||
16 | residents for nonemergency calls for services rendered by a | |||||||||||||||||||||
17 | municipal fire department, firefighter, emergency response | |||||||||||||||||||||
18 | unit, or public safety employee of a municipal department.
