Bill Title: Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code. Provides that the Chicago Board of Education may approve a change to the name of a school building only if a petition is filed with the board in favor of changing the school building's name and the petition is signed by at least 2,000 members of the community in which the building is located. Provides that if the board has approved a change to the name of a school building after June 1, 2012 and before June 1, 2014, then the board shall rescind that approval and the original name of the school building must be restored. Effective June 1, 2014.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
534-18.49 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/34-18.49 new)
7 Sec. 34-18.49. School building name change. The board may
8approve a change to the name of a school building only if a
9petition is filed with the board in favor of changing the
10school building's name and the petition is signed by at least
112,000 members of the community in which the building is
12located. If the board has approved a change to the name of a
13school building after June 1, 2012 and before June 1, 2014,
14then the board shall rescind that approval and the original
15name of the school building must be restored.
16 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect June 1,
172014.
