Bill Title: Amends the Board of Higher Education Act. Provides that within 6 months of the effective date of the amendatory Act, the Board of Higher Education shall prepare a report to the General Assembly on the state of artificial intelligence education and development in public and private institutions of higher education. Sets forth what the report shall contain.

1 | AN ACT concerning education.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | |||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Board of Higher Education Act is amended by | |||||||||||||||||||
5 | adding Section 9.44 as follows:

6 | (110 ILCS 205/9.44 new) | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 9.44. Artificial intelligence education report. | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | (a) In this Section, "artificial intelligence" means a | |||||||||||||||||||
9 | machine-based system that can, for a given set of | |||||||||||||||||||
10 | human-defined objectives, make predictions, recommendations, | |||||||||||||||||||
11 | or decisions influencing real or virtual environments. | |||||||||||||||||||
12 | (b) Within 6 months of the effective date of this | |||||||||||||||||||
13 | amendatory Act of the 103rd General Assembly, the Board shall | |||||||||||||||||||
14 | prepare a report to the General Assembly on the state of | |||||||||||||||||||
15 | artificial intelligence education and development in public | |||||||||||||||||||
16 | and private institutions of higher education. The report shall | |||||||||||||||||||
17 | contain, at a minimum, the following information: | |||||||||||||||||||
18 | (1) All existing academic programs and courses | |||||||||||||||||||
19 | focusing on education of students about the use, | |||||||||||||||||||
20 | development, and ethical and social implications of | |||||||||||||||||||
21 | artificial intelligence systems. | |||||||||||||||||||
22 | (2) All future plans for implementing such programs | |||||||||||||||||||
23 | and courses. |
