Provides that it is an unlawful practice for any person who hosts an online distribution platform for third-party software programs or applications to charge a fee or commission on a purchase made by a customer through a software program or application that was distributed through that platform. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning business.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2EEEE as follows:
6 (815 ILCS 505/2EEEE new)
7 Sec. 2EEEE. Fees or commissions on third-party software
8programs and applications. No person who hosts an online
9distribution platform for third-party software programs or
10applications shall charge a fee or commission on a purchase
11made by a customer through a software program or application
12that was distributed through that platform.
13 Any person who violates this Section commits an unlawful
14practice within the meaning of this Act.
