Bill Title: Amends the Halal Food Act. Provides that any food commodity in package form that is marked as being certified by an organization, identified on the package by any symbol, or is otherwise marked as being Halal shall not be offered for sale by the producer or distributor of the food commodity until 30 days after the producer or distributor registers the name, current address, and telephone numbers of the certifying organization or the supervising imam with the Department of Agriculture. Effective June 1, 2023.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Halal Food Act is amended by adding Section | |||||||||||||||||||
5 | 16 as follows:

6 | (410 ILCS 637/16 new) | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | Sec. 16. Registration. Any food commodity in package form | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | that is marked as being certified by an organization, | |||||||||||||||||||
9 | identified on the package by any symbol, or is otherwise | |||||||||||||||||||
10 | marked as being Halal shall not be offered for sale by the | |||||||||||||||||||
11 | producer or distributor of the food commodity until 30 days | |||||||||||||||||||
12 | after the producer or distributor registers the name, current | |||||||||||||||||||
13 | address, and telephone numbers of the certifying organization | |||||||||||||||||||
