2 | WHEREAS, It is important to recognize those who contributed | ||||||
3 | to the betterment of the State of Illinois through public | ||||||
4 | service; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, It is equally important that we do not forget the | ||||||
6 | contributions these individuals made in improving the State of | ||||||
7 | Illinois and the nation as a whole; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John "Doc" Davidson was born on August 31, 1924, | ||||||
9 | in West Point, Mississippi; he was the son of the late Homer | ||||||
10 | and Anna (Grossboll) Davidson; he married Shirley Beard on | ||||||
11 | August 8, 1953 and is the father of 3 and the grandfather of 6; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John "Doc" Davidson was a chiropractor by trade; | ||||||
14 | he served in the United States Navy during World War II as a | ||||||
15 | tail gunner and served on the USS Ticonderoga; he was a member | ||||||
16 | and past president of the Springfield Jaycees, where he was | ||||||
17 | honored to be one of the Jaycees' 10 Outstanding Young Men of | ||||||
18 | America for 1954-1955; he was a member of the American | ||||||
19 | Chiropractic Association, where he was the first recipient of | ||||||
20 | the National Chiropractor of the Year Award in 1973; he was a | ||||||
21 | member of the Illinois Chiropractic Society, the Masonic Shrine | ||||||
22 | Board, and American Legion Post #32; he was a founding member |

1 | of the Prairie State Games and a member of the Governor's | ||||||
2 | Prayer Breakfast Committee; he was also a member of the | ||||||
3 | Sangamon County Board of Supervisors for 13 1/2 years and | ||||||
4 | served as the board's chair for 2 1/2 years; and

5 | WHEREAS, John "Doc" Davidson served as an Illinois State | ||||||
6 | Senator from 1973 to 1993, representing the 50th House District | ||||||
7 | covering Sangamon, Christian, and Montgomery Counties; his | ||||||
8 | greatest legislative accomplishment was ensuring that the SIU | ||||||
9 | School of Medicine was to be seated in Springfield, providing | ||||||
10 | world-class care to the City of Springfield and surrounding | ||||||
11 | areas; and

12 | WHEREAS, The members of this august body believe it is | ||||||
13 | fitting to honor John "Doc" Davidson by dedicating the section | ||||||
14 | of Illinois Route 97 beginning at the intersection of Veterans | ||||||
15 | Parkway in Springfield and ending at the intersection of County | ||||||
16 | Highway 12 in Menard County as the John "Doc" Davidson Memorial | ||||||
17 | Highway; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
20 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of | ||||||
21 | Illinois Route 97 beginning at the intersection of Veterans | ||||||
22 | Parkway in Springfield and ending at the intersection of County | ||||||
23 | Highway 12 in Menard County as the John "Doc" Davidson Memorial |

2 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
3 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
4 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
5 | giving notice of the name of the John "Doc" Davidson Memorial | ||||||
6 | Highway; and be it further

7 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of | ||||||
9 | Transportation and the family of John "Doc" Davidson.
