2 | WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Winters devoted his life to preaching | ||||||
3 | the word of God and through the teachings of Jesus Christ | ||||||
4 | promoted a life of grace, salvation, kindness to others, and | ||||||
5 | forgiveness; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, On the morning of Sunday, March 8, 2009 Pastor | ||||||
7 | Fred was suddenly taken from his family and his congregation in | ||||||
8 | a tragic act of violence; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Pastor Fred died doing his life's work, using the | ||||||
10 | word of God to help his fellow church members find peace and | ||||||
11 | comfort in their own lives; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Fred Winters was born December 4, 1963, in Kansas | ||||||
13 | City, Missouri; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Winters had served as pastor of the | ||||||
15 | First Baptist Church of Maryville since 1987; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Pastor Fred and Cindy Lee (Jackson) were married | ||||||
17 | September 12, 1987 and were the proud and loving parents of two | ||||||
18 | children: Alysia Grace and Cassidy Hope; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from |
| |||||||

1 | Southwest Baptist University in 1985, received his Master's | ||||||
2 | degree in Systematic Theology and Church History from Wheaton | ||||||
3 | Graduate School in 1986, and a Master's of Divinity from | ||||||
4 | Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1991; he went on to | ||||||
5 | earn a Doctorate from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; | ||||||
6 | and

7 | WHEREAS, Pastor Fred is the former president of the | ||||||
8 | Illinois Baptist State Association and an adjunct professor for | ||||||
9 | Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Pastor Fred Winters is survived by his wife, | ||||||
11 | Cindy; his daughters, Alysia Grace and Cassidy Hope; his | ||||||
12 | mother, Jacqueline; his brothers, Karl (Ramona), Joe (Mary), | ||||||
13 | Zach (Karen), Andrew, and John; his sister, Anna (Jim) | ||||||
14 | Sublette; and his grandfather, Dr. Harlan Hannon; therefore, be | ||||||
15 | it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
18 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we mourn, with heavy hearts, the | ||||||
19 | passing of Pastor Fred Winters and offer our sincerest | ||||||
20 | condolences to his family, his congregation, and all who were | ||||||
21 | touched by his life and his mission; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
