1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who have given | ||||||
4 | their lives in service to their communities; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police has proudly served the | ||||||
6 | citizens of Illinois since 1922, and its dedication to public | ||||||
7 | safety has saved countless lives and has enriched the State of | ||||||
8 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, It is important to remember those officers who | ||||||
10 | lost their lives while upholding their oath to serve and | ||||||
11 | protect; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Trooper Albert Hasson was the first Illinois | ||||||
13 | State Police officer to be killed in the line of duty; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was struck by a car while | ||||||
15 | patrolling approximately three miles north of Chenoa on | ||||||
16 | September 7, 1924; he pulled off the road to stop an oncoming | ||||||
17 | car and was struck by a car from behind just as he stepped onto | ||||||
18 | the roadway, throwing him 10 feet; and

19 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was taken by fellow officers to | ||||||
20 | the hospital in Pontiac, where he succumbed to his injuries |

1 | several hours later; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was a four-month veteran of the | ||||||
3 | Illinois State Police, assigned to District 6 in Pontiac; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Trooper Hasson was a veteran of World War I, and | ||||||
5 | at the time of his passing, he was survived by his wife; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, To honor Trooper Hasson, a training room in the | ||||||
7 | District 6 Headquarters was named after him in 2004; | ||||||
8 | therefore, be it

9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
10 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
11 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate U.S. Route 24 in | ||||||
12 | the City of Chenoa as the "Trooper Albert Hasson Memorial | ||||||
13 | Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
15 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
16 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
17 | giving notice of the name of the "Trooper Albert Hasson | ||||||
18 | Memorial Highway"; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the Illinois State Police, the Mayor of the City |
