Bill Title: Proposes to amend the Legislature and Executive Articles of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not hold the office of State Senator or State Representative for more than 12 years, or a combination of those offices for more than 16 years. Provides that a person may not serve more than 2 terms within the Office of the Governor. Provides that a person may not serve more than 3 terms within the same Executive Branch office.

5 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the | |||||||||||||||||||||
6 | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general | |||||||||||||||||||||
7 | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of | |||||||||||||||||||||
8 | this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 of Article IV | |||||||||||||||||||||
9 | and amend Section 2 of Article V of the Illinois Constitution | |||||||||||||||||||||

14 | SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS. A person may not hold the office of | |||||||||||||||||||||
15 | State Senator or State Representative for more than 12 years, | |||||||||||||||||||||
16 | or a combination of those offices for more than 16 years. | |||||||||||||||||||||
17 | Service before the second Wednesday in January of 2019 shall | |||||||||||||||||||||
18 | not be considered in the calculation of a person's service.

1 | SECTION 2. TERMS
| ||||||
2 | (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall | ||||||
3 | hold office for
four years beginning on the second Monday of | ||||||
4 | January after their
election and, except in the case of the | ||||||
5 | Lieutenant Governor, until their
successors are qualified. | ||||||
6 | They shall be elected at the general election
in 1978 and every | ||||||
7 | four years thereafter.

8 | (b) A person may not serve more than 2 terms within the | ||||||
9 | office of the Governor. | ||||||
10 | (c) A person may not serve more than 3 terms within the | ||||||
11 | same Executive Branch office. A person is considered to serve a | ||||||
12 | term of office for the purpose of this subsection if the person | ||||||
13 | is elected or appointed to serve any portion of the term. | ||||||

16 | This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being | ||||||
17 | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois | ||||||
18 | Constitutional Amendment Act.
