2 | WHEREAS, On October 7, 2023, Hamas, a foreign terrorist | ||||||
3 | organization, launched a brutal terrorist attack upon the | ||||||
4 | civilians of the State of Israel; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The attack followed countless other terrorist | ||||||
6 | acts by Hamas against the State of Israel and its civilians, | ||||||
7 | and this cross-border assault included thousands of rockets | ||||||
8 | fired by Hamas into Israel and numerous terrorist incursions | ||||||
9 | into the streets and homes of Israeli civilians; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, As a result of this heinous attack, more than | ||||||
11 | 1,200 men, women, and children were killed and thousands more | ||||||
12 | were wounded; more than 200 Israelis and foreign nationals of | ||||||
13 | more than 30 countries, including U.S. citizens, have been | ||||||
14 | abducted and brutalized by Hamas terrorists, and rapes, | ||||||
15 | torture, and murders of abducted civilians have been reported; | ||||||
16 | and

17 | WHEREAS, As of January 19, 2025, U.S. officials have | ||||||
18 | reported that 46 American citizens had been killed in the | ||||||
19 | brutal assault, with 251 hostages being taken in the attack on | ||||||
20 | October 7, 2023; of those, 57 hostages, including four U.S. | ||||||
21 | citizens believed to be alive and the bodies of three U.S. | ||||||
22 | citizens, have yet to be released and remain captive today; |

2 | WHEREAS, Continued prayers are offered to those abducted | ||||||
3 | civilians, including those American citizens and their | ||||||
4 | families, as the hostage release deal continues; and

5 | WHEREAS, Hamas' attacks on October 7 unleashed a year of | ||||||
6 | devastating conflict, with tragic consequences for the State | ||||||
7 | of Israel and its civilians; and

8 | WHEREAS, Over a year after the horrific attack on October | ||||||
9 | 7, 2023, tragedy, destruction, and instability haunt the | ||||||
10 | people in the State of Israel today; patriotic Americans have | ||||||
11 | responded to this attack by expressing their unwavering | ||||||
12 | support for Israel and Jewish Americans; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we reflect on the heinous Hamas terrorist attack of October 7, | ||||||
16 | 2023, and we remember the lives of the civilians, soldiers, | ||||||
17 | and defenders who expressed unwavering support for the State | ||||||
18 | of Israel; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That we extend our sincere condolences to the | ||||||
20 | families who have lost loved ones in this brutal assault, | ||||||
21 | including the families of the 46 American citizens who lost |

2 | RESOLVED, That we stand steadfast in the face of terrorism | ||||||
3 | and violent acts, and we remain committed to lasting peace and | ||||||

6 | delivered to Yinam Cohen, the Consul General of Israel to the | ||||||
7 | Midwest, at the Office of the Consulate General of Israel in | ||||||
