2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas | ||||||
4 | J. "Tom" Schutte, who passed away on February 13, 2025; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Tom Schutte, the son of Rome and Marge (Wilson) | ||||||
6 | Schutte, was born in Quincy on May 11, 1940; he attended Camp | ||||||
7 | Point High School; he later married Judi Willer on October 26, | ||||||
8 | 1974; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Tom Schutte served in the U.S. Army National | ||||||
10 | Guard and was a member of the 126th Supply and Services | ||||||
11 | Company, also known as the Hallmark Company; his unit, | ||||||
12 | consisting of 144 soldiers, was deployed in September 1968, | ||||||
13 | becoming the only Illinois National Guard unit to be sent to | ||||||
14 | Vietnam; he and a majority of the unit were stationed in Chu | ||||||
15 | Lai, Vietnam, where they came under attack on their second | ||||||
16 | night, and they all later returned to a parade and celebration | ||||||
17 | in Quincy, Illinois in August 1969; and

18 | WHEREAS, Tom Schutte worked for BNSF Railway, a freight | ||||||
19 | railroad company also referred to as the Burlington Northern | ||||||
20 | Santa Fe Railroad, for over 36 years; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Tom Schutte was a strong Quincy Notre Dame High |

1 | School supporter and volunteer, and he was inducted into the | ||||||
2 | Quincy Notre Dame Hall of Fame in 2016; he loved attending and | ||||||
3 | watching his family's sports activities, including those of | ||||||
4 | his nieces, nephews, and friends; and

5 | WHEREAS, Tom Schutte was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Tom Schutte is survived by his wife, Judi; his | ||||||
8 | son, Eric Schutte; his son, Shane (fiancee, Amanda Cannon) | ||||||
9 | Schutte, and his son's fiancee's children, Devon and Aidan | ||||||
10 | Cannon; his siblings, Jim (Marcia) Schutte and Sherry (Roger) | ||||||
11 | Willis; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we mourn the passing of Thomas J. "Tom" Schutte and extend our | ||||||
16 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
17 | and loved him; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Tom Schutte as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy. |
