HOUSE RESOLUTION
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas
4J. "Tom" Schutte, who passed away on February 13, 2025; and
5    WHEREAS, Tom Schutte, the son of Rome and Marge (Wilson)
6Schutte, was born in Quincy on May 11, 1940; he attended Camp
7Point High School; he later married Judi Willer on October 26,
81974; and
9    WHEREAS, Tom Schutte served in the U.S. Army National
10Guard and was a member of the 126th Supply and Services
11Company, also known as the Hallmark Company; his unit,
12consisting of 144 soldiers, was deployed in September 1968,
13becoming the only Illinois National Guard unit to be sent to
14Vietnam; he and a majority of the unit were stationed in Chu
15Lai, Vietnam, where they came under attack on their second
16night, and they all later returned to a parade and celebration
17in Quincy, Illinois in August 1969; and
18    WHEREAS, Tom Schutte worked for BNSF Railway, a freight
19railroad company also referred to as the Burlington Northern
20Santa Fe Railroad, for over 36 years; and
21    WHEREAS, Tom Schutte was a strong Quincy Notre Dame High

1School supporter and volunteer, and he was inducted into the
2Quincy Notre Dame Hall of Fame in 2016; he loved attending and
3watching his family's sports activities, including those of
4his nieces, nephews, and friends; and
5    WHEREAS, Tom Schutte was preceded in death by his parents;
6and
7    WHEREAS, Tom Schutte is survived by his wife, Judi; his
8son, Eric Schutte; his son, Shane (fiancee, Amanda Cannon)
9Schutte, and his son's fiancee's children, Devon and Aidan
10Cannon; his siblings, Jim (Marcia) Schutte and Sherry (Roger)
11Willis; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives;
12therefore, be it
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the passing of Thomas J. "Tom" Schutte and extend our
16sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved him; and be it further
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Tom Schutte as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
