HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
3report that vaccinations are one of the best ways to put an end
4to the serious effects of certain diseases; and
5 WHEREAS, From January 1, 2015 to January 30, 2015, 102
6people from 14 states were reported to have measles; and
7 WHEREAS, On January 23, 2015, the Centers for Disease
8Control and Prevention issued a Health Advisory to notify
9public health departments and healthcare facilities about this
10multi-state outbreak and to provide guidance for healthcare
11providers nationwide; and
12 WHEREAS, The United States experienced a record number of
13measles cases during 2014, with 644 cases from 27 states
14reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's
15National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases;
16this is the greatest number of cases since measles elimination
17was documented in the United States in 2000; and
18 WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's
19Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices reports that
20adolescents between 13 and 17 years of age routinely receive
21meningococcal conjugate, tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular

1pertussis vaccines; and
2 WHEREAS, Immunizing children and adolescents helps protect
3the health of our communities throughout the State of Illinois
4by slowing down or stopping disease outbreaks; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7encourage the continued use of vaccines for children,
8adolescents, and adults to ensure the safety and health of the
9citizens of this State.
