Bill Title: Urges Illinois constitutional officers, members of the Illinois House of Representatives, members of the Illinois Senate, as well as the presidents and chairpersons of the Boards of Trustees of individual universities of the State university system, to encourage the playing of the official State song, "Illinois", at all official events.

| 2 | WHEREAS, The State song, "Illinois", with lyrics by Civil | ||||||
| 3 | War veteran, Charles H. Chamberlain, and
music by Archibald | ||||||
| 4 | Johnston, was adopted as the official State song of Illinois by | ||||||
| 5 | the 54th
General Assembly on June 30, 1925; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, "Illinois", when played, should instill a sense of | ||||||
| 7 | pride in all
residents of the Prairie State; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The lyrics of "Illinois" serve to depict the | ||||||
| 9 | beauty and
wondrous history of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Prior to his presidency, while serving as | ||||||
| 11 | toastmaster at a reunion of the Army of the Potomac, William | ||||||
| 12 | McKinley congratulated Charles H. Chamberlain for having | ||||||
| 13 | "written a song which will never die"; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Illinois is the proud home of four U.S. presidents - | ||||||
| 15 | Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Ronald Reagan, and Barack | ||||||
| 16 | Obama; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 18 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 19 | urge Illinois constitutional officers, members of the Illinois | ||||||
| 20 | House of Representatives, and members of the Illinois Senate to | ||||||

| 1 | encourage the playing of the official State song, "Illinois", | ||||||
| 2 | at all official events; and be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That we urge our State colleges and universities | ||||||
| 4 | to play "Illinois" at their commencement exercises; and be it | ||||||

| 6 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | delivered to Illinois constitutional officers,
the Speaker of | ||||||
| 8 | the Illinois House of Representatives, the President of the | ||||||
| 9 | Illinois Senate, as well as the presidents of State colleges | ||||||
| 10 | and universities, the Chairpersons of the Boards of Trustees | ||||||
| 11 | for State colleges and universities; and be it further | ||||||
