HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The naming of school buildings, facilities, and
3 grounds is an important matter that deserves thoughtful
4 attention; and
5 WHEREAS, The naming of buildings and other facilities in a
6 school district provides an opportunity to recognize the
7 contributions of individuals or groups to education and to the
8 life of communities or to recognize the significance of the
9 neighborhood area or community where a school resides; and
10 WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of all of this State's
11 citizens for school districts to establish an equitable process
12 by which local individuals can continue to assume their
13 responsibility for naming school facilities; and
14 WHEREAS, In recognition that the name for a school
15 building, facility, or ground reflects on its public image, the
16 primary consideration of school districts and individuals in
17 selecting names or renaming buildings, facilities, or grounds
18 should be in a manner that enhances the credibility and stature
19 of the school building, facility, or ground; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

1 urge school districts to avoid selecting school names
2 supportive of individuals or entities considered to be in
3 current or past military conflict with the State of Illinois or
4 the United States of America; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 delivered to the Illinois Statewide School Management
7 Alliance.
