2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Russell | ||||||
4 | Arthur Goodwin Sr. of Mt. Zion, who passed away on April 26, | ||||||
5 | 2009; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. was born on September 26, | ||||||
7 | 1923, in Cheyenne, Wyoming; he was the son of Clyde E. and | ||||||
8 | Evelynia (Hill) Goodwin; he married Mary Mann on June 7, 1958; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. served his country with pride | ||||||
11 | and distinction as a member of the United States Army during | ||||||
12 | World War II, having served with the 625th Engineers and | ||||||
13 | Equipment Company in the European Theatre of Operations; while | ||||||
14 | in the Army, he received two Bronze Stars; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. was a founder and owner of | ||||||
16 | Goodmar Inc. and DG Manufacturing in Mt. Zion; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. was a life member of the South | ||||||
18 | Macon Lodge #467 AF & AM.; he was a member of the Springfield | ||||||
19 | Consistory and the Ansar Shrine in Springfield; he belonged to | ||||||
20 | the Royal Order of Jesters and the Decatur Shrine Club; he was | ||||||
21 | a member in the Local #965 Operating Engineers since 1941; he |

1 | was a Kentucky Colonel, a Kentucky Admiral, and a Tennessee | ||||||
2 | Colonel; he was a member of the Mt. Zion Lions Club; he had a | ||||||
3 | great love of jazz music and was a member of Juvae Jazz Club, | ||||||
4 | having served on the club's Board of Directors; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. enjoyed working hard, | ||||||
6 | boating, and his train, the "Whistleville Trolley"; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. was named to President Ronald | ||||||
8 | Reagan's Roll of Honor and was a recipient of the City of | ||||||
9 | Decatur Award; he was most proud, however, of his award of | ||||||
10 | participation with the Boy Scouts; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
12 | daughter, Lisa Tippit, and his three brothers and two sisters; | ||||||
13 | and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Russell Goodwin Sr. is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
15 | son, Russell Goodwin Jr. and his wife, Patty; his daughters, | ||||||
16 | Barbara Ann Goodwin, Anna Marie Deaton, and Sandy Brust and her | ||||||
17 | husband, Peter; his son-in-law, Darwin Tippit; and his eleven | ||||||
18 | grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
21 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |

1 | Russell Arthur Goodwin Sr.; and be it further
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Russell Goodwin Sr. as an expression | ||||||
4 | of our sympathy.
