2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
4 | Illinois State Representative Harold Murphy of Markham, who | ||||||
5 | passed away on January 5, 2015; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy was born in Birmingham, Alabama on | ||||||
7 | April 1, 1940; he graduated with honors from Northeastern | ||||||
8 | Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, For over 20 years, Rep. Murphy was
employed as the | ||||||
10 | Executive Director of the Charles Chew Facility of the Illinois
| ||||||
11 | Secretary of State's Office; he also served on the Board of | ||||||
12 | Trustees for South
Suburban College and as a City of Markham | ||||||
13 | Alderman; he was active with the
local school board and the | ||||||
14 | Markham Park District; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy served his community as State
| ||||||
16 | Representative for the 30th Legislative District during the | ||||||
17 | 88th, 89th, 90th, 91st, and 92nd General Assemblies; his | ||||||
18 | legislative committees included Prison Management Reform; the | ||||||
19 | Illinois State
Toll Highway Authority Advisory Board; the | ||||||
20 | Illinois Advisory Council on
Alcoholism and other Drug | ||||||
21 | Dependency; Higher Education; Financial Institutions;
Counties | ||||||
22 | and Townships; Commerce, Industry and Labor; Health Care |

and Access; Environment and Energy; Elementary | ||||||
2 | and Secondary Education; he served as Co-Chair of the | ||||||
3 | Transportation and Motor Vehicles Committee, Vice-Chairman of | ||||||

Laws Commission, and Chairman of the Personnel and | ||||||
5 | Pension Committee; and

6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy strongly believed in "Doing the Will
| ||||||
7 | of the People"; he was an active member of Victory Christian | ||||||
8 | International Ministries, where
he served on the Stewardship | ||||||
9 | Ministry and maintained his membership until his
death; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife,
| ||||||
11 | Loretta; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Rep. Murphy is survived by his daughters, Vetonia | ||||||
13 | (Raven), Karen, and Cassandra
(Franklin); his grandchildren, | ||||||
14 | Michael, Carolyn, and Jeremiah; and his great-grandchildren,
| ||||||
15 | Omarian, Jahzlynn, and Kyree; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
18 | mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative | ||||||
19 | Harold Murphy, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
