HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to congratulate the Chicago Chapter of
the National Black Nurses Association (CCNBNA) on the occasion
of the 50th anniversary of its founding; and
WHEREAS, The CCNBNA was established in 1973 by Christine
Leak in response to the challenges witnessed by Black nurses
caring for Black people in the areas of sickle cell,
hypertension, diabetes, cancer, pregnancies, alcoholism, and
inadequate nutritional intake; and
WHEREAS, These initial efforts led to an increase in
community-based, volunteer-based community, healthcare
programs within Black communities which in turn led to an
increase in community-centered collaborations and networking
with organizations caring for persons of color; and
WHEREAS, This also led to an increase in CCNBNA's
involvement with aldermanic offices and in health-related
activities as well as with the City of Chicago's Department of
Public Health and Gilda's Place; and
WHEREAS, The CCNBNA has increased its involvement with
undergraduate nursing programs and their student population;

WHEREAS, The CCNBNA organizes trips to Springfield to
educate its junior members and student nurse members on the
importance of conveying their concerns to their legislative
officials; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we congratulate the Chicago Chapter of the National Black
Nurses Association (CCNBNA) on its 50th anniversary and wish
them many more successful years; and be it further
