2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Nanette Mellen on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of her retirement after 25 years of dedicated | ||||||
5 | service with Danville School District 118; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Nanette Mellen was born and raised in Danville; | ||||||
7 | she graduated from Danville High School with the Class of 1970; | ||||||
8 | she earned her bachelor's degree from Indiana University in | ||||||
9 | 1974, her master's degree in education from the University of | ||||||
10 | Illinois in 1988, and her specialist degree in educational | ||||||
11 | administration from Eastern Illinois University in 2003; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Nanette Mellen has had a long and distinguished | ||||||
13 | career in education; starting in 1974, she taught in Danville | ||||||
14 | District 118 schools for 12 years, teaching second grade, fifth | ||||||
15 | grade, middle school, and high school physical education and | ||||||
16 | health classes at the Liberty, Roselawn, and Lincoln Elementary | ||||||
17 | Schools, North Ridge Middle School, and Danville High School; | ||||||
18 | she has also served as a track coach, assistant basketball | ||||||
19 | coach, cheerleading sponsor, and spelling team coach at the | ||||||
20 | elementary level; and

21 | WHEREAS, Nanette Mellen served as athletic director at | ||||||
22 | Danville High School from 1985 to 1989; she served as assistant |

1 | principal at DHS from 1989 to 1991; she served as director of | ||||||
2 | strategic planning and information from 1991 to 1992; from 1992 | ||||||
3 | until 1993, she served as principal at Edison Elementary | ||||||
4 | School; she served as director of human resources from 1993 to | ||||||
5 | 1996; she served as principal at DHS from 1996 until 2001; she | ||||||
6 | then served as an assistant/associate superintendent of | ||||||
7 | schools from 2001 until 2004, when she became the | ||||||
8 | superintendent of Danville School District 118; she remained | ||||||
9 | superintendent of the district until her retirement on June 30, | ||||||
10 | 2009; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Nanette Mellen serves as a model of hard work, | ||||||
12 | integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of | ||||||
13 | Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate Nanette Mellen on the occasion of her retirement | ||||||
17 | and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and | ||||||
18 | be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to Nanette Mellen as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
21 | respect.
