2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Christ Lutheran | ||||||
4 | School boys and girls basketball teams, the Comets, on their | ||||||
5 | respective achievements during the 2023-2024 season; and

6 | WHEREAS, The Christ Lutheran School (CLS) boys and girls | ||||||
7 | basketball teams were both named state champions, placing | ||||||
8 | first in their respective programs at the 2024 Lutheran Sports | ||||||
9 | Association (LSA) of Illinois Grade School Basketball | ||||||
10 | Championships; and

11 | WHEREAS, The CLS boys basketball team was named the winner | ||||||
12 | of the 2024 LSA of Illinois Grade School Boys Basketball | ||||||
13 | Championship after defeating the Immanuel Lutheran School of | ||||||
14 | Palatine with a score of 56-35, concluding the season with a | ||||||
15 | record of 35-0; and

16 | WHEREAS, During the 2023-2024 season, the CLS boys | ||||||
17 | basketball team also won the Christ Community of St. Louis | ||||||
18 | Tournament, the CLS Tournament, and the Lutheran Basketball | ||||||
19 | Association of America (LBAA) National Tournament, where the | ||||||
20 | team achieved its fifth national championship title in school | ||||||

5 | Nigel Moore, Anfernee Moore, Trey Alexander, Bryan Nichelson, | ||||||
6 | Kaylen Hardy, Noah Sydnor, Canaan Metz, Corey Hearn, Carmelo | ||||||
7 | Hearn, Quentyn Matthews, Christian Fuller, Camden Knox-Reed, | ||||||
8 | Demario Weldy, Lawson Sommerville, and Jaylen Stewart; and

9 | WHEREAS, The CLS girls basketball team earned its first | ||||||
10 | state title at the 2024 LSA of Illinois Grade School Girls | ||||||
11 | Basketball Championship after defeating the Immanuel Lutheran | ||||||
12 | School of Palatine with a score of 49-22, concluding the | ||||||
13 | season with a record of 27-0; and

14 | WHEREAS, During the 2023-2024 season, the CLS girls | ||||||
15 | basketball team also went undefeated in its Illinois | ||||||
16 | Elementary School Association (IESA) season and won the Zion | ||||||
17 | Marengo Tournament and the LBAA National Tournament, where the | ||||||
18 | team secured its first national championship title in school | ||||||
19 | history; and

20 | WHEREAS, The CLS girls basketball team is led by Head | ||||||
21 | Coach Paris Gulley and Assistant Coach Marlon Herron; and

8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
9 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
10 | we congratulate the Christ Lutheran School boys and girls | ||||||
11 | basketball teams, the Comets, on their respective achievements | ||||||
12 | during the 2023-2024 season, and we wish the teams' student | ||||||
