| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Jaime Garcia on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of his retirement as executive director of the Centro | ||||||
5 | de Información; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Centro de Información, a not-for-profit social | ||||||
7 | services agency, has been serving the Hispanic community in | ||||||
8 | and around Elgin for 50 years; the agency provides immigration | ||||||
9 | and naturalization services, employment aid, parenting skills | ||||||
10 | classes, an emergency food pantry, educational seminars, and | ||||||
11 | additional services to the Kane County area; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jaime Garcia has been involved with the Centro de | ||||||
13 | Información since its inception on March 21, 1972; while | ||||||
14 | working part-time with the United Methodist churches in Elgin, | ||||||
15 | he partnered with Reverend Ivan Rivera of the St. Joseph | ||||||
16 | Catholic Church to pool resources and start an organization to | ||||||
17 | assist the estimated 5,000 Latinos living in the Elgin area at | ||||||
18 | the time; their then all-volunteer organization opened with no | ||||||
19 | funding in a small, one-room office offered to them by Club | ||||||
20 | Guadalupano in what is now the Elgin Senior Services building; | ||||||
21 | their organization opened every Tuesday afternoon and evening, | ||||||
22 | offering information, referrals, and advocacy; and

1 | WHEREAS, Jaime Garcia has served the Centro de Información | ||||||
2 | in every capacity, as a volunteer for 35 years and as executive | ||||||
3 | director for the past 15 years; during his tenure, the Centro | ||||||
4 | de Información has grown to include 16 paid staff members, a | ||||||
5 | budget of more than $1 million, and three offices located in | ||||||
6 | Elgin, Carpentersville, and Hanover Park; since taking the | ||||||
7 | reins as executive director, the agency has assisted | ||||||
8 | approximately 150,000 individuals; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jaime Garcia will retire on June 30, 2022; | ||||||
10 | therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we congratulate Jaime Garcia on his retirement from the Centro | ||||||
14 | de Información, recognize his commitment to the Kane County | ||||||
15 | community and the State of Illinois, and wish him success in | ||||||
16 | his future endeavors; and be it further

18 | presented to Jaime Garcia as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
