HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, During 2020, the University of St. Francis will
celebrate 100 years of preparing women and men to contribute to
the world through service and leadership and of being a
cornerstone of the Joliet community; and
WHEREAS, The University of St. Francis was established in
1920 by the Congregation of the Third Order of St. Francis of
Mary Immaculate for the education of its own members; and
WHEREAS, Under the name Assisi Junior College, the doors of
the University of St. Francis were opened to women outside the
congregation in 1925; and
WHEREAS, A senior college curriculum was established and a
new name, the College of St. Francis, was adopted in the fall
term of 1930; and
WHEREAS, The College of St. Francis became coeducational in
1971; and
WHEREAS, The institution became the University of St.
Francis on January 1, 1998; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the students of the University of St.

Francis continue doing works of mercy within Illinois,
including feeding the homeless, aiding the sick, clothing the
naked, visiting the imprisoned, and teaching the young; and
WHEREAS, University of St. Francis alumni act as
instruments of peace, contributing their time, talent, and
treasure in service and leadership, building both civic and
religious communities of welcome; and
WHEREAS, For 100 years, the State of Illinois and the
University of St. Francis have benefited from one another,
growing together in both reputation and achievement in a
partnership that has enriched the lives of those who work in
and call Illinois home; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we congratulate the University of St. Francis on its centennial
anniversary and on its significant contributions to Joliet,
Will County, the State of Illinois, and beyond; and be it
further
RESOLVED, We commend the University of St. Francis for its
commitment to its students and extend best wishes to all for a
successful celebration; and be it further
