| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, During 2020, the University of St. Francis will | ||||||
3 | celebrate 100 years of preparing women and men to contribute to | ||||||
4 | the world through service and leadership and of being a | ||||||
5 | cornerstone of the Joliet community; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The University of St. Francis was established in | ||||||
7 | 1920 by the Congregation of the Third Order of St. Francis of | ||||||
8 | Mary Immaculate for the education of its own members; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Under the name Assisi Junior College, the doors of | ||||||
10 | the University of St. Francis were opened to women outside the | ||||||
11 | congregation in 1925; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, A senior college curriculum was established and a | ||||||
13 | new name, the College of St. Francis, was adopted in the fall | ||||||
14 | term of 1930; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The College of St. Francis became coeducational in | ||||||
16 | 1971; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The institution became the University of St. | ||||||
18 | Francis on January 1, 1998; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Each year, the students of the University of St. |

1 | Francis continue doing works of mercy within Illinois, | ||||||
2 | including feeding the homeless, aiding the sick, clothing the | ||||||
3 | naked, visiting the imprisoned, and teaching the young; and

4 | WHEREAS, University of St. Francis alumni act as | ||||||
5 | instruments of peace, contributing their time, talent, and | ||||||
6 | treasure in service and leadership, building both civic and | ||||||
7 | religious communities of welcome; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, For 100 years, the State of Illinois and the | ||||||
9 | University of St. Francis have benefited from one another, | ||||||
10 | growing together in both reputation and achievement in a | ||||||
11 | partnership that has enriched the lives of those who work in | ||||||
12 | and call Illinois home; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we congratulate the University of St. Francis on its centennial | ||||||
16 | anniversary and on its significant contributions to Joliet, | ||||||
17 | Will County, the State of Illinois, and beyond; and be it | ||||||
