| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Jasmine Babers of Rock | ||||||
| 4 | Island for being named one of the top two youth volunteers in | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois for 2014 in the Prudential Spirit of Community Award | ||||||
| 6 | program; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Award, | ||||||
| 8 | presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the | ||||||
| 9 | National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors | ||||||
| 10 | young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an | ||||||
| 11 | extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Jasmine Babers earned this award by giving | ||||||
| 13 | generously of her time and energy to found, edit, and publish a | ||||||
| 14 | quarterly magazine to help teenage girls build self-esteem, | ||||||
| 15 | become leaders, and pursue their dreams; the magazine features | ||||||
| 16 | articles about the struggles and accomplishments of individual | ||||||
| 17 | girls, plus tips on exercise, fashion, makeup, and succeeding | ||||||
| 18 | in school and life; the publication also hosts a recognition | ||||||
| 19 | event for girls called the Love Awards in the Quad Cities and | ||||||
| 20 | produced a play about the strength of girls; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, As a State Honoree, Jasmine Babers received a | ||||||
| 22 | $1,000 award, an engraved silver medallion, and a trip to | ||||||

| 1 | Washington, D.C. on May 3-6, 2014 during a series of national | ||||||
| 2 | recognition events; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The success of the State of Illinois, the strength | ||||||
| 4 | of our communities, and the overall vitality of American | ||||||
| 5 | society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young | ||||||
| 6 | people like Jasmine Babers, who use their considerable talents | ||||||
| 7 | and resources to serve others; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 10 | we congratulate and honor Jasmine Babers for being named one of | ||||||
| 11 | the top two youth volunteers in Illinois for 2014 in the | ||||||
| 12 | Prudential Spirit of Community Award program, recognize her | ||||||
| 13 | outstanding record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and | ||||||
| 14 | community spirit, and extend our best wishes for her continued | ||||||
| 15 | success and happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Jasmine Babers as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 18 | esteem.
