| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to commend the Illinois State Police, | ||||||
| 4 | under the leadership of Director Brendan F. Kelly, for their | ||||||
| 5 | exceptional service during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent | ||||||
| 6 | turmoil in major cities during the week of May 25 to June 1, | ||||||
| 7 | 2020; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police was officially created | ||||||
| 9 | in 1922; since its inception, the Illinois State Police has | ||||||
| 10 | fostered and served with a reputation for integrity, service, | ||||||
| 11 | and pride; the Illinois State Police's functions include | ||||||
| 12 | protecting life and property, enforcing both criminal laws and | ||||||
| 13 | motor vehicle safety laws, responding to emergencies and | ||||||
| 14 | disasters, and providing a myriad of diverse specialized | ||||||
| 15 | services to both the public and the criminal justice community; | ||||||
| 16 | and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, The Illinois State Police met the challenge posed | ||||||
| 18 | by the novel coronavirus, completing missions for the Illinois | ||||||
| 19 | Department of Public Health, for hospitals, for nursing homes, | ||||||
| 20 | and for local law enforcement; armed with PPE and the latest | ||||||
| 21 | science on COVID-19, they forged new and stronger relationships | ||||||
| 22 | with local law enforcement and walked the fine line between | ||||||
| 23 | education, enforcement, and community caretaking; they led | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | security for the Illinois House of Representatives in a special | ||||||
| 2 | session to support the democratic process during a pandemic; | ||||||
| 3 | most importantly, they protected the health of the people of | ||||||
| 4 | Illinois; and with no rest from their exhaustive efforts, they | ||||||
| 5 | immediately faced the further demands of racial tensions in | ||||||
| 6 | major cities; therefore, be it

| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 8 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 9 | we commend the Illinois State Police for their exceptional | ||||||
| 10 | service during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent turmoil in | ||||||
| 11 | major cities during the week of May 25 to June 1, 2020; and be | ||||||
| 12 | it further

| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to the Director of the Illinois State Police, Brendan | ||||||
| 15 | F. Kelly, as an expression of our esteem and respect.
