2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Nehemiah | ||||||
4 | Lavon "Miah" Nickels of Peoria, who passed away on August 9, | ||||||
5 | 2024; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels was born to Albert J. Nickels | ||||||
7 | and Almelia (Pendleton) Nickels in Peoria on August 6, 1973; | ||||||
8 | he attended Illinois Central College; he completed a five-year | ||||||
9 | apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of | ||||||
10 | Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical | ||||||
11 | Contractors Association (NECA); he received an electrician | ||||||
12 | journeyman wireman certificate; he married Cherryse L. Richard | ||||||
13 | in Peoria; and

14 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels was a member of IBEW Local 34, | ||||||
15 | and he most recently worked as an electrician for Oberlander | ||||||
16 | Electric Company in Peoria; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels committed to his faith at an | ||||||
18 | early age and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels loved sports; he was a fan of | ||||||
20 | the Chicago Bears, bowled in The National Bowling Association | ||||||
21 | (TNBA) leagues, and enjoyed coaching his youngest children's |

1 | basketball teams and his grandsons' football teams; and

2 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels will be remembered for his | ||||||
3 | contagious laughter, his playfulness, his generosity, and his | ||||||
4 | selflessness; and

5 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels was preceded in death by his | ||||||
6 | father; his grandparents; his niece, Christian Nickels; and | ||||||
7 | his father-in-law, Earl L. Richard; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Nehemiah Nickels is survived by his wife; his | ||||||
9 | mother; his children, KeAna, Maiya, Anajeon, Amorah, and Noah; | ||||||
10 | his grandchildren, Khiden, Anthony (Bennie), and Anajeon Jr.; | ||||||
11 | his siblings, Chris (Sonja) and William (Clorissa); his | ||||||
12 | honorary siblings, Reggie Brown and Melisande (Mel) Brown | ||||||
13 | Peterson; his godmother, Verdie Finney; his godsister, Vonnie | ||||||
14 | Adell; his in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, | ||||||
15 | and friends; therefore, be it

18 | we mourn the passing of Nehemiah Lavon "Miah" Nickels and | ||||||
19 | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | ||||||
20 | who knew and loved him; and be it further
