HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ida Grace
Dotson of Chicago, who passed away on October 6, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Ida Dotson was born to the late Percy and Bessie
Carter in Russellville, Alabama on January 30, 1924; she was
the youngest of six children, all of whom have preceded her in
death; she moved from Alabama to Gary, Indiana at an early age
and attended Froebel School; in 1949, she married her lifelong
partner Leroy Dotson; they were together until his death in
2011; and
WHEREAS, Upon moving to Chicago, Ida Dotson worked for
several years at Western Electric, Ritholds Glasses, and
Illinois Bell before becoming a full-time homemaker; and
WHEREAS, Ida Dotson committed to her faith at an early age;
she joined Greater Harvest Missionary Baptist Church under the
pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Louis Boddie, where
she sang in the choir and was a member of the Beacon light
club; after the death of Reverend Boddie, she and several of
her friends started a weekly bible study in her home that was
known as the Universal Prayer Band; she then began attending
the Bright Star Church of God in Christ; there, she served as a

church mother, a missionary, a Sunday school teacher, and as a
pastor's aide; in addition to serving her local church, she
served at the district and state level; she was a licensed
missionary and evangelist within the Sixth Ecclesiastical
Jurisdiction of Illinois of the COGIC; and
WHEREAS, Ida Dotson is survived by her son, Pastor Timothy
(Jenise); her three grandchildren, Timothy Jr., Tiffany
Dotson-Cage (Zerome), and Troy; her three great-grandchildren,
Zechariah, Zaiden, and Zander Cage; her sister-in-law, Mary
Carter; and her host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Ida Grace Dotson and extend our sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Ida Dotson as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
