2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to commend Thomas Butler on a lifetime of | ||||||
4 | service; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Thomas Butler was born in Philadelphia, | ||||||
6 | Pennsylvania on December 17, 1964; in 1983, he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Barrington High School and enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps; | ||||||
8 | following the footsteps of his father James Butler, he served | ||||||
9 | as a proud U.S. Marine and was in one of the first units
to land | ||||||
10 | in Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert
Shield/Desert Storm; while | ||||||
11 | serving in the Marines, he obtained his associate's degree in | ||||||
12 | political science; he was honorably discharged in
1993; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Thomas Butler began working for a hotel and casino | ||||||
14 | chain as a security
officer; in 1994, he attended the ALETA | ||||||
15 | Police Academy in
Tucson, Arizona and served in law enforcement | ||||||
16 | for
approximately seven years in Mohave County, Arizona; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Thomas Butler and his family moved to Idaho, and | ||||||
18 | he began working for the sheriff's department in Gem County, | ||||||
19 | Idaho; he also started working for the Albertson's grocery | ||||||
20 | chain, where he became a manager; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Thomas Butler joined the Idaho National Guard |

1 | after the attacks on September 11, 2001 so that he could once | ||||||
2 | again serve his country; he was deployed to Iraq, where he was | ||||||
3 | wounded by an improvised explosive device
(IED) while on a foot | ||||||
4 | patrol in Kirkuk; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Thomas Butler recovered and obtained
his Bachelor | ||||||
6 | of Science in Business Administration and
Management; he become | ||||||
7 | a recruiter for the Army National Guard; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Thomas Butler has received a number of awards and | ||||||
9 | citations during his military career, including the Purple | ||||||
10 | Heart (Army Service), the Idaho Cross (Army Service), the Army | ||||||
11 | Commendation Medal (Army
Service), the Combat Action Badge | ||||||
12 | (Army Service), the Navy
Achievement Medal (Marine Corps | ||||||
13 | Service), the Meritorious
Unit Commendation Medal (Army | ||||||

15 | National Guard; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
17 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
18 | we commend Thomas Butler on a lifetime of service; and be it | ||||||
19 | further
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to Thomas Butler as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
22 | esteem.
