| 2 | WHEREAS, The Berwyn Development Corporation membership | ||||||
| 3 | selects an individual who best
exemplifies the spirit of one of | ||||||
| 4 | Berwyn's original developers, Charles E. Piper; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Berwyn Development Corporation recently | ||||||
| 6 | awarded Eduardo "Eddie" Garcia with the Charles E. Piper Award | ||||||
| 7 | to honor his achievements and contributions towards the growth | ||||||
| 8 | and
development of Berwyn's business community; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Eddie Garcia was born in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico | ||||||
| 10 | and is a graduate of St.
Joseph High School; he is a first | ||||||
| 11 | generation Mexican-American born to proud immigrant
parents, | ||||||
| 12 | Florencia Rosas and Aristeo E. Garcia; the Garcia family | ||||||
| 13 | migrated from Mexico City to
the United States in 1989 when | ||||||
| 14 | Eddie was only five years old; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, A strong work ethic was instilled in Eddie Garcia | ||||||
| 16 | by his parents at an early age, beginning
with his first job at | ||||||
| 17 | the age of nine; at 21, he attained his real estate license; he | ||||||
| 18 | sold his first
property six months later and fell in love with | ||||||
| 19 | the real estate business; in 2012, he founded
Realty of | ||||||
| 20 | Chicago, signing his first agent without an office and from his | ||||||
| 21 | truck at a time when the
market was deteriorating; in 2017, | ||||||
| 22 | Realty of Chicago closed $126 million in sales and has grown
to | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | over 80 agents with three offices located throughout the | ||||||
| 2 | Chicagoland area; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Eddie Garcia's core
beliefs all share the idea of | ||||||
| 4 | the community as a focal point; he believes that "Building a | ||||||
| 5 | successful
company is great, but building a successful company | ||||||
| 6 | that can give back is even greater."; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Each year, Eddie Garcia and Realty of Chicago give | ||||||
| 8 | back to the communities of Berwyn
and Cicero, providing | ||||||
| 9 | thousands of children with backpacks and school supplies, | ||||||
| 10 | feeding over
15,000 people on Thanksgiving Day, and providing | ||||||
| 11 | scholarships to high school graduates; he is proud to announce | ||||||
| 12 | that in 2018, Realty of Chicago will be expanding their | ||||||
| 13 | community
programs to all of their offices throughout the | ||||||
| 14 | Chicagoland area; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate Eddie Garcia as
on receiving the 33rd Annual | ||||||
| 18 | Charles E. Piper Award, and look forward to many more years of
| ||||||
| 19 | his continued success and contributions to the Berwyn | ||||||
| 20 | community; and be it further
