| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the staff of WGLT Public | ||||||
| 4 | Radio on the occasion of the station's 50th anniversary in | ||||||
| 5 | 2016; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, WGLT's first broadcast was held on February 6, | ||||||
| 7 | 1966 from Illinois State University; the station has been a | ||||||
| 8 | public service of the University ever since; WGLT stands for | ||||||
| 9 | Gladly Learn and Teach, inspired by the University's motto: | ||||||
| 10 | "Gladly we learn and teach"; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, WGLT has served central Illinois with | ||||||
| 12 | comprehensive local, national, and international news, | ||||||
| 13 | information, and entertainment for 5 decades, including | ||||||
| 14 | programming from National Public Radio, Public Radio | ||||||
| 15 | International, and other public radio networks; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, WGLT News has been honored with scores of awards | ||||||
| 17 | for excellence in broadcast journalism, including 96 regional | ||||||
| 18 | Associated Press awards, 34 regional and 5 national Edward R. | ||||||
| 19 | Murrow awards, 6 regional and 2 national UPI awards, and 4 | ||||||
| 20 | national awards from Public Radio News Directors, Inc.; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, WGLT has acted as a catalyst for McLean County's | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | thriving arts and cultural community by bringing award-winning | ||||||
| 2 | national artists, speakers, and performers to central | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, With financial support from the community it | ||||||
| 5 | serves, WGLT has grown to become more than radio, connecting | ||||||
| 6 | central Illinois to the wider world through ideas, engagement, | ||||||
| 7 | and entertainment; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 9 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 10 | congratulate the staff of WGLT Public Radio on the occasion of | ||||||
| 11 | the station's 50th anniversary in 2016 and wish them continued | ||||||
| 12 | success and happiness in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to WGLT Public Radio as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
| 15 | respect.
