2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor our esteemed colleague, | ||||||
4 | State Senator Pat McGuire, on his eight years as a member of | ||||||
5 | the Illinois General Assembly and to thank him for his | ||||||
6 | dedicated service to our State and his community; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire attended Catholic schools in his | ||||||
8 | hometown of Joliet; he is the husband of Lora and the father of | ||||||
9 | Molly; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire taught job health and safety to | ||||||
11 | local union members; he also taught English to high school and | ||||||
12 | community college students; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire served his community in elective | ||||||
14 | office as a school board member and a county treasurer before | ||||||
15 | becoming a state senator; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire has represented Illinois Senate | ||||||
17 | District 43 since 2012, serving the people of DuPage and Will | ||||||
18 | Counties for eight years; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire has experience in both private and | ||||||
20 | public schooling; and

1 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire was a strong advocate for women | ||||||
2 | and children, acting to toughen penalties on domestic abusers | ||||||
3 | and fund Court Appointed Special Advocate organizations in | ||||||
4 | order to ensure that abused and neglected children are getting | ||||||
5 | the court support that they need and deserve; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire served as the chair of the Senate | ||||||
7 | Higher Education Committee, where he spoke against cuts to the | ||||||
8 | university system during impasse; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire worked to preserve and redevelop | ||||||
10 | Joliet's government facilities, including the Stateville | ||||||
11 | Correctional Center and Collins Street Task Force to preserve | ||||||
12 | the Collins Street prison facility; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire co-sponsored a measure to raise | ||||||
14 | the minimum wage in Illinois to $15 per hour; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire spoke against harmful cuts to | ||||||
16 | programs like child care assistance and fought to preserve | ||||||
17 | payroll for state workers during the two-year budget crisis | ||||||
18 | that occurred early in his career in the Senate; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire worked to form and lead the | ||||||
20 | bipartisan, bicameral Higher Education Working Group; he |

1 | created the AIM HIGH state scholarship; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire created the Mental Health Early | ||||||
3 | Action on Campus Act; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire dedicated himself to improving | ||||||
5 | the State's Department of Children and Family Services; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire will be remembered as a supporter | ||||||
7 | of workers' rights and an advocate for collective bargaining; | ||||||
8 | he supported worker safety, pushing for worker access to and | ||||||
9 | knowledge of the regulations and protections granted by OSHA | ||||||
10 | and other state workplace safety organizations; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire was a frequent passenger on | ||||||
12 | Amtrak's Lincoln Service; he was also an advocate for the | ||||||
13 | improvement and further development of mass transit in | ||||||
14 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire responded to the COVID-19 | ||||||
16 | pandemic with the goal of providing employees with the means to | ||||||
17 | report improper conditions and providing employers with clear | ||||||
18 | guidance on how to reorganize their workplaces to maximize | ||||||
19 | worker safety; and

20 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire was an Edgar Fellows Program |

1 | student of the Class of 2017; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Senator McGuire has been honored by a number of | ||||||
3 | organizations, including the Romeoville Fraternal Order of | ||||||
4 | Police, the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural | ||||||
5 | Education, the Transportation for Illinois Coalition, the | ||||||
6 | Illinois Optometric Association, Leading Age Illinois, Joliet | ||||||
7 | Central, the senior living communities Heritage Woods of | ||||||
8 | Bolingbrook and Woodridge Horizon, the Southwest Coalition on | ||||||
9 | Substance Abuse Issues, and Volunteers of America of Illinois, | ||||||
10 | among others; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we congratulate and honor State Senator Pat McGuire for his | ||||||
14 | dedicated service as a member of the Illinois Senate, and we | ||||||
15 | wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
17 | presented to Senator McGuire as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
