2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Fire Chief Marty Feld of | ||||||
4 | the Niles Fire Department on the occasion of his retirement | ||||||
5 | after more than 38 years of service; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld began his career as a firefighter | ||||||
7 | with the Niles Fire Department on October 5, 1986; he was | ||||||
8 | promoted to lieutenant in 1996, serving as the department's | ||||||
9 | paramedic coordinator for the next nine years; after being | ||||||
10 | promoted to the rank of district chief in 2005, he developed | ||||||
11 | training programs still in use today and created a | ||||||
12 | return-to-work initiative for firefighters after extended | ||||||
13 | leave; he also held a number of other roles, including EMS | ||||||
14 | officer, training officer, and fire investigator; throughout | ||||||
15 | his career, he maintained his status as a licensed paramedic | ||||||
16 | in the State of Illinois; and

17 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld focused on efficiency and fiscal | ||||||
18 | responsibility during his tenure as chief, securing $1.9 | ||||||
19 | million in grants to bolster department resources, including a | ||||||
20 | Safer Grant to fill a staffing shortage, and joining the | ||||||
21 | Ground Emergency Medical Transport program to obtain Medicaid | ||||||
22 | reimbursement for ambulance service costs; further, he | ||||||
23 | restored the much-needed deputy fire chief position and |

1 | returned the 1941 Pirsch fire engine to Niles after many years | ||||||
2 | away, and he was credited with reorganizing the organization | ||||||
3 | into EMS, training, and operations divisions, improving its | ||||||
4 | operational focus; and

5 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld helped navigate the Village of | ||||||
6 | Niles through the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining direct | ||||||
7 | fire and EMS services to the community; he implemented new | ||||||
8 | safety protocols, ensured the availability of protective | ||||||
9 | equipment, and secured more than $800,000 in reimbursements | ||||||
10 | for pandemic-related expenses from Cook County and the Federal | ||||||
11 | Emergency Management Agency; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld has launched a number of public | ||||||
13 | outreach initiatives, including annual pancake breakfasts and | ||||||
14 | open houses, fire extinguisher training, and a smoke detector | ||||||
15 | installation program responsible for installing over 1,500 | ||||||
16 | detectors in local homes; and

17 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld has been instrumental in fire | ||||||
18 | truck and ambulance designs and builds over the years; he also | ||||||
19 | worked on the Fire Station 3 renovation, and he has been | ||||||
20 | actively involved in the new Fire Station 2 project; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld has had the strong support of his | ||||||
22 | wife, three daughters, a granddaughter, his parents, and many |

1 | siblings and extended family members; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Fire Chief Feld will conclude his career with the | ||||||
3 | Niles Fire Department on November 30, 2024; therefore, be it

4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
5 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we congratulate Fire Chief Marty Feld of the Niles Fire | ||||||
7 | Department on his retirement, and we thank him for his more | ||||||
8 | than 38 years of service and dedication to the Village of Niles | ||||||
9 | and the State of Illinois; and be it further
