| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | ||||||
3 | members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to | ||||||
4 | welcome the 4-H community to the Illinois State Capitol; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, 4-H is the largest youth organization in the State | ||||||
6 | of Illinois, challenging nearly 300,000 Illinois youth to | ||||||
7 | "learn by doing" with fun, hands-on activities teaching skills | ||||||
8 | for living; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, 4-H is the premier youth educational program of | ||||||
10 | the United States Department of Agriculture and supported by | ||||||
11 | the latest research from Illinois' land grant university, the | ||||||
12 | University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, 4-H is part of the University of Illinois | ||||||
14 | Extension and is available to all youth in every county in the | ||||||
15 | State; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, More than 24,000 caring, nurturing adults | ||||||
17 | volunteer with 4-H youth by creating learning laboratories to | ||||||
18 | practice real world skills needed today and in the future; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, 4-H enriches the lives of Illinois youth while | ||||||
20 | focusing on the mission mandates of science, engineering, and |

| |||||||
1 | technology, healthy living, and citizenship/leadership; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, 4-H is committed nationally to engage One Million | ||||||
3 | New Scientists and One Million New Ideas by the year 2012 | ||||||
4 | through promoting the concepts of science, engineering, and | ||||||
5 | technology in 4-H programs and activities; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Research by Tufts University has shown that 4-H | ||||||
7 | members do better in school, are more likely to see themselves | ||||||
8 | going to college, are less likely to engage in risky behaviors, | ||||||
9 | and contribute more to their communities; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, 4-H offers youth supervised independence, a sense | ||||||
11 | of belonging, a spirit of generosity towards others, and an | ||||||
12 | opportunity to master life challenges; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, 4-H members pledge their head, heart, hands, and | ||||||
14 | health to making the best better in their clubs, communities, | ||||||
15 | country, and world; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
17 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
18 | Tuesday, March 9, 2010 is 4-H Day at the Illinois State | ||||||
19 | Capitol, saluting the rich traditions of Illinois 4-H, the | ||||||
20 | outstanding accomplishments of Illinois 4-H members and | ||||||
21 | leaders and the commitment to science education for our future |
