2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate their colleague | ||||||
4 | Representative Mike Unes on the occasion of his retirement as | ||||||
5 | State Representative of the 91st District after serving five | ||||||
6 | distinguished terms in the General Assembly; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes served as Assistant Minority | ||||||
8 | Leader in the House of Representatives; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes strived to do the very best | ||||||
10 | for the people of his district, providing the constituent | ||||||
11 | service that those citizens deserve and bringing forth | ||||||
12 | legislation that bettered the lives of those citizens; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes worked within his caucus and | ||||||
14 | across the aisle to pass many pieces of important legislation, | ||||||
15 | which resulted in a positive impact on the people of the State | ||||||
16 | of Illinois, despite serving the entirety of his term in the | ||||||
17 | minority party; and

18 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes remained true to the | ||||||
19 | principles of honesty and service to the State in the face of | ||||||
20 | tough decisions and trying times; and

1 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes served as a dedicated leader | ||||||
2 | focused on an agenda for families of Fulton, Tazewell, and | ||||||
3 | Peoria Counties that included fiscal responsibility, | ||||||
4 | attracting employers back to Illinois, and reforming state | ||||||
5 | government ethics; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes received his bachelor's | ||||||
7 | degree from Bradley University in 1996; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes served on the East Peoria City | ||||||
9 | Council, where he oversaw accounts and finance and served as | ||||||
10 | mayor pro tem, from 2007 until he took office as a state | ||||||
11 | representative; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes has been recognized and has | ||||||
13 | received many accolades for his outstanding work ethic and | ||||||
14 | achievements, including being named East Peoria's | ||||||
15 | Distinguished Citizen of the Year; he was also named Legislator | ||||||
16 | of the Year by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, | ||||||
17 | ABATE of Illinois, and the Illinois Healthcare Association; he | ||||||
18 | was named an inaugural Edgar Fellow for his demonstrated | ||||||
19 | positive leadership; he also received the Friend of Agriculture | ||||||
20 | Award by the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Illinois Electric | ||||||
21 | Cooperatives' Public Service Award; and

22 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes has been honored for his |

1 | commitment to improving Illinois' climate for employers; he was | ||||||
2 | named a Champion of Free Enterprise three times by the Illinois | ||||||
3 | Chamber of Commerce, which also named him Outstanding Freshman | ||||||
4 | Legislator; he was recognized by the Illinois Manufacturers' | ||||||
5 | Association multiple times for his commitment to Illinois | ||||||
6 | manufacturing; in addition, he was thrice awarded the Guardian | ||||||
7 | of Small Business Award by the National Federation of | ||||||
8 | Independent Business/Illinois; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes resides in East Peoria with | ||||||
10 | his wife, Natalie, and their four children, Meghan, Nathan, | ||||||
11 | Michelle, and Nicholas; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Representative Unes' commitment to public service | ||||||
13 | and his business experience have been invaluable to the General | ||||||
14 | Assembly and House Republican Caucus; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, After his time in Springfield, Representative | ||||||
16 | Unes will continue his commitment to service, working to | ||||||
17 | improve central Illinois as Vice President of the UnityPoint | ||||||
18 | Health - Central Illinois Foundation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we honor State Representative Mike Unes for his work in the | ||||||
22 | Illinois House of Representatives and wish him all the best on |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to Representative Unes as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
