HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Albert
"Al" Benedetti of Naperville, who passed away on May 3, 2012;
and
WHEREAS, He was born January 2, 1924 in Chicago; he
graduated from North Central College in 1948 with a degree in
chemistry; as a student-athlete, he starred on the 1946 and
1947 championship football teams and played in the 1947 Corn
Bowl, the College's first postseason appearance and only one
until 2005; and
WHEREAS, He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy
during World War II and attended Officers Candidate School; and
WHEREAS, He joined Bruno Benedetti & Sons in 1951 and was
named president of the residential construction company in
1963; he served as a member of the Board of Directors of
Washington Bank and Trust Company (later Westbank) for 14
years, the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce for 9 years, and
the Northern Illinois Home Builders Association for 6 years;
and
WHEREAS, He was the founder of the Naperville Little League

and a life-time member of the Naperville Heritage Society; a
street in Naperville bears the family name, Benedetti Drive;
and
WHEREAS, He began serving on the North Central College
Board of Trustees in 1988; in 1999, he was honored with the
College's Gael D. Swing Award for Meritorious Service; in 2002,
he received the College's Outstanding Alumni Award; in 2006, he
was inducted into the North Central College Athletics Hall of
Fame; and
WHEREAS, He was responsible for the construction efforts
that led to the building of the College stadium, renamed
Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in 2003; and
WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and
Anita; and
WHEREAS, Albert Benedetti is survived by his loving wife,
Alpha; his children, Denise (Warren) Loveland, Diane
Benedetti, Doreene Benedetti, and Valerie (Dan) Munson; his
grandchildren, Dana Ripper, Sara Loveland, Ann Loveland
(Rachel Campbell), and Philip and Jenifer Munson; his brother,
Roy Benedetti; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
Albert Benedetti; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Albert Benedetti as a symbol of our
sincere sympathy.
