HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to thank State Representative Sandra
4"Sandy" Hamilton on her service to the 99th District and the
5people of Illinois; and
6 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton was born in Downers Grove to
7Charles and Joan Scholtens on December 31, 1966, and her
8parents instilled in her the values of community volunteering,
9philanthropy, and promoting community growth; and
10 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton met her husband, Bob, while
11attending the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana,
12where she received her degree and represented the university
13as a member of its championship volleyball team; and
14 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton and her husband are the proud
15parents of Charlie, Will, and Jake; she and Bob have lived in
16Springfield for more than 20 years; her professional
17experience includes being a real estate broker with Remax
18Professionals, Inc., specializing in residential and
19commercial real estate; she is also a small business owner,
20co-owning local storage units; and
21 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton was sworn in on December 30, 2021

1to fill the vacancy of retiring Rep. Mike Murphy in the 99th
2District; and
3 WHEREAS, During her time in the General Assembly, Rep.
4Hamilton advanced key legislation to protect state workers in
5the Child Protective Services Division of the Illinois
6Department of Children and Family Services, and she has
7sponsored 12 and co-sponsored another 36 pieces of legislation
8during her short time in the 102nd General Assembly; and
9 WHEREAS, All of Rep. Hamilton's resolutions passed,
10including the Gold Star Spouses Day declaration and those
11honoring the lives and good works of Springfield volunteer and
12realtor Ron Ladley, mental health advocate and motivational
13speaker Kay McGuire, Springfield Coach Ken Leonard, the Sacred
14Heart-Griffin football champions, and the Sacred Heart-Griffin
15basketball champions; and
16 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton was the chief co-sponsor of the
17legislation to create the Parking Tax Exemption for the
18Illinois State Fair and DuQuoin State Fair, co-sponsor of the
19new law for enhanced background checks on people who directly
20work with children to help identify sexual abuse cases, and
21co-sponsor of the new law to create the Money Laundering in
22Real Estate Task Force to investigate the cash flows and money
23laundering in the real estate industry and the Illinois

1economy; and
2 WHEREAS, Prior to her selection to the House of
3Representatives, Rep. Hamilton was on the board of directors
4and finance committee and was an executive board member with
5Capital Area Realtors (CAR); she has been on the Awards
6Selection Task Force and is a current member of the Commercial
7Real Estate Network (CREN), where she served as president; she
8received the Community Service Award from her peers at CAR;
9she was also appointed to the Economic and Community
10Development Commission (EDC) starting in 2019; and
11 WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Rep. Hamilton has been a
12volleyball coach, helping young women across central Illinois
13at the high school level and at Parkland Junior College, where
14the team won the national championship; and
15 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton earned a bachelor's degree from the
16University of Illinois-Champaign, where she played volleyball
17on a full-ride athletic scholarship; her team won three Big
18Ten Championships and also was a Final Four participant her
19junior and senior year; in her senior year at Illinois, she
20received the Coaches Award, which was then renamed the Sandy
21Scholtens Award and given to the athlete who embodies work
22ethic, attitude, and team work; and

1 WHEREAS, Rep. Hamilton plans to continue her community
2service and involvement as a volunteer volleyball coach and
3booster for Sacred Heart-Griffin High School; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we thank State Representative Sandra "Sandy" Hamilton on her
7service to the 99th District and the people of Illinois and
8wish her well in her continued public service; and be it
9further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Rep. Hamilton as an expression of our esteem and
12respect for our colleague and friend.
