2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alfred | ||||||
4 | Calvin Wilson of Chicago, who recently passed away; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Calvin Wilson was born to Rosie and John Wilson on | ||||||
6 | September 27, 1924 in Clarksdale, Mississippi; he was the | ||||||
7 | fourth of four children born to this loving family, Annie Mae | ||||||
8 | West (Herman), Nelson J. Wilson (Susie), and Catherine Curds, | ||||||
9 | along with his parents preceded him in death; there were over | ||||||
10 | 20 children who were brought into this union and they were all | ||||||
11 | raised together, as one family; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, In the early 1930s, Alfred moved with his family | ||||||
13 | to the west side of Chicago, where he attended Tennyson | ||||||
14 | Elementary School; at a very early age he decided he needed to | ||||||
15 | work in order to help his family and started his own shoe shine | ||||||
16 | business and worked from early morning to late night walking | ||||||
17 | and shining shoes in the area around the old Chicago stadium, | ||||||
18 | downtown Chicago, and for many blocks up Madison Street; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, In the early 1940s he met Inez L. Porter, and they | ||||||
20 | were married on September 28, 1946; Alfred worked for Jefferson | ||||||
21 | Electric in Bellwood for 25 years; Alfred was a member of | ||||||
22 | Gammon Methodist Church (now Resurrection United Methodist) |

1 | for over 60 years; he was an active member of the Adams Street | ||||||
2 | Block Club; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, He was a lover of music, and especially enjoyed | ||||||
4 | the big band sound, the blues, and soulful ballads; he had a | ||||||
5 | passion for the great outdoors and spending time on the fish | ||||||
6 | banks; he was a life long Cubs fan; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Saturday nights were always a very special night | ||||||
8 | in the Wilson house, the time for the family to play records, | ||||||
9 | dance (Al was a very smooth dancer), or gather around the | ||||||
10 | television for favorite shows; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Alfred Wilson is survived by his daughters, | ||||||
12 | Camille Wilson White (Julius H. White Sr.) and Alvia Wilson | ||||||
13 | McNeal; his six grandchildren, Keeley Ayanna Heslynn McNeal, | ||||||
14 | Jada Jodey Larrise McNeal, Keenan Saterial McNeal, Julius | ||||||
15 | Howard White Jr., Jarrad Hamilton White, and Zurry Xavier | ||||||
16 | McNeal; his great-granddaughter, Elliana Rose White; his | ||||||
17 | great-grandson, Alexander Sebastian McNeal; his special | ||||||
18 | nephew, Samuel Brown (Eva); and his special niece, Ruth | ||||||
19 | Robinson; along with a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, | ||||||
20 | and family; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |

1 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Alfred | ||||||
2 | Wilson; and be it further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Alfred Calvin Wilson as a symbol of | ||||||
5 | our sincere sympathy.
