Bill Title: Amends the Department of Public Health Powers and Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires each licensed health care professional who performs a physical examination of a person 19 years of age or younger to include as part of that examination questions that evaluate the person's family history related to various cardiac conditions. Requires the Department to develop a cardiac screening professional development module in consultation with certain health care associations to be determined by the Director. AN ACT concerning State government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The Department of Public Health Powers and
Duties Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
amended by adding Section 2310-637 as follows:

Sec. 2310-637. Required cardiac screening. Each licensed
health care professional who performs a physical examination of
a person 19 years of age or younger, whether that examination
is performed annually or pursuant to the requirements of
Section 27-8.1 of the School Code, shall include as part of
that examination questions that evaluate the person's family
history related to cardiac conditions contained in the current
version of the Preparticipation Physical Evaluation Form
developed jointly by the American Academy of Family Physicians,
American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Sports
Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine,
American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and American
Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. The Department is
required to develop a cardiac screening professional
development module in consultation with certain health care
associations to be determined by the Director.

For the purposes of this Section, "licensed health care
professional" means a physician licensed to practice medicine
in all its branches under the Medical Practice Act of 1987, a
physician assistant under the Physician Assistant Practice Act
of 1987, or an advanced practice nurse under Article 65 of the
Nurse Practice Act.
