1 | AN ACT concerning education.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Local Food, Farms, and Jobs Act is amended | ||||||
5 | by adding Section 30 as follows:

6 | (30 ILCS 595/30 new) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 30. Farm-school database. The Department of | ||||||
8 | Agriculture shall establish, and make available on its website, | ||||||
9 | a geo-coded electronic database to facilitate the purchase of | ||||||
10 | fresh produce and food products by schools. The database shall | ||||||
11 | be developed jointly with the Local Food, Farms, and Jobs | ||||||
12 | Council and, at a minimum, contain the information necessary | ||||||
13 | for (i) schools to identify and contact agricultural producers | ||||||
14 | that are interested in supplying schools in the State with | ||||||
15 | fresh produce and food products and (ii) agricultural producers | ||||||
16 | of fresh produce and food products to identify schools in the | ||||||
17 | State that are interested in purchasing those products. The | ||||||
18 | Department of Agriculture shall adopt rules necessary to | ||||||
19 | implement this Section. The Department of Agriculture shall | ||||||
20 | also solicit federal and State funding for the purpose of | ||||||
21 | implementing this program. The requirement of the Department to | ||||||
22 | establish, and make available on its website, this database | ||||||
23 | shall become effective once the Department has secured all of |
