Bill Title: Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Creates the offense of obstructing identification. Provides that a person commits the offense when he or she intentionally or knowingly furnishes a false or fictitious name, residence address, or date of birth to a peace officer who has: (1) lawfully arrested the person; (2) lawfully detained the person; or (3) requested the information from a person that the peace officer has good cause to believe is a witness to a criminal offense. Provides that a violation is a Class A misdemeanor.

1 AN ACT concerning criminal law.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by adding
5 Section 31-4.5 as follows:
6 (720 ILCS 5/31-4.5 new)
7 Sec. 31-4.5. Obstructing identification.
8 (a) A person commits the offense of obstructing
9 identification when he or she intentionally or knowingly
10 furnishes a false or fictitious name, residence address, or
11 date of birth to a peace officer who has:
12 (1) lawfully arrested the person;
13 (2) lawfully detained the person; or
14 (3) requested the information from a person that the
15 peace officer has good cause to believe is a witness to a
16 criminal offense.
17 (b) Sentence. Obstructing identification is a Class A
18 misdemeanor.
