AN ACT concerning State government.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
represented in the General Assembly:
Section 5. The State Police Act is amended by adding
Section 19 as follows:
(20 ILCS 2610/19 new)
Sec. 19. The Director shall select and assign State Police
officers to provide security and protection for the Governor,
the Governor's immediate family, and the Executive Mansion, to
the extent and in the manner the Governor and the Director deem
adequate and appropriate. The Director shall select and assign
State Police officers to provide security and protection for
the State's Constitutional Officers and other elected
officials of the State. The Director may assign State Police
officers to provide security and protection for other State
officials based upon a threat assessment of the individual
requesting the protection. The Director may assign State Police
officers to assist the security details of visiting governors
and dignitaries. In the same manner, the Director shall provide
security and protection for the Governor-elect from the time of
election.
Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
