Bill Title: Reinserts the provisions of the introduced bill with the following changes. Provides that, beginning January 1, 2024, the Department shall provide a semi-annual report to the General Assembly on pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements on non-highway State routes that have been initiated, are in progress, or are recently completed. The Department shall provide the reports every June 30th and January 1st thereafter. Adds an immediate effective date.

AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
| ||||
Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding | ||||
Section 2705-625 as follows:

(20 ILCS 2705/2705-625 new) | ||||
Sec. 2705-625. Safety improvements to State roads for | ||||
pedestrians and cyclists. The Department shall develop a | ||||
policy which ensures the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on | ||||
roadways within this State. The policy shall provide that | ||||
improvements will be made during routine maintenance and | ||||
within a distance of 500 feet of the maintenance work to any | ||||
State roads within a municipality to include, but not be | ||||
limited to, high visibility signage, crosswalk improvements, | ||||
curb bump outs, barrier protected bike lanes, and bus | ||||
shelters. | ||||
Beginning January 1, 2024, the Department shall provide a | ||||
