Bill Title: Amends the Illinois School Student Records Act. Provides that upon the discovery of a breach of security that results in the unauthorized release, disclosure, or acquisition of student information contained in a school student record, a school shall, no later than 48 hours after discovery, notify the parent of the student whose record is involved in the breach of security. Effective immediately.

1 | AN ACT concerning education.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Illinois School Student Records Act is | ||||||
5 | amended by adding Section 6.5 as follows:

6 | (105 ILCS 10/6.5 new) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 6.5. Security breach. Upon the discovery of a breach | ||||||
8 | of security that results in the unauthorized release, | ||||||
9 | disclosure, or acquisition of student information contained in | ||||||
10 | a school student record, a school shall, no later than 48 hours | ||||||
11 | after discovery, notify the parent of the student whose record | ||||||
12 | is involved in the breach of security.

13 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
14 | becoming law.
