New Act

1 AN ACT concerning government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Thomson United States Penitentiary Cession Act.
6 Section 5. Cession of concurrent jurisdiction. The State of
7Illinois hereby cedes to the United States concurrent
8jurisdiction in and over the following land comprising the site
9of the United States Penitentiary, Thomson, described as
10follows:
11 A part of the southeast quarter and southwest quarter of
12 section 13 and part of the northeast quarter and northwest
13 quarter of section 24 all in township 23 north range 3 east
14 of the fourth principal meridian Carroll County, Illinois.
15 More particularly described as follows: Commencing at the
16 southwest corner of the southwest quarter of said section
17 13 as the point of beginning of the tract to be described:
18 from the point of beginning. Thence North 01°08'51" west,
19 (bearings are for descriptive purposes only) along the west
20 line of said southwest quarter of section 13, a distance of
21 942.27 feet; thence north 87°45'03" east, a distance of
22 2,733.29 feet to the westerly right-of-way line of the

1 Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad; thence south
2 06°34'13" east along said westerly right-of-way line, a
3 distance of 1,916.34 feet; thence south 87°47'21" west, a
4 distance of 348.55 feet; thence south 02°14'57" east, a
5 distance of 380.05 feet to a point on the south line of the
6 north half of the northwest quarter of section 24; thence
7 south 87°45'03" west along said south line of the north
8 half of the northwest quarter of section 24, a distance of
9 2,589.84 feet to the southwest corner of the north half of
10 the northwest quarter of section 24; thence north 00°26'24"
11 west, along the west line of the north half of the
12 northwest quarter of said section 24, a distance of
13 1,349.28 feet to the point of beginning, in Carroll County,
14 Illinois. Containing 146.541 acres.
15 Section 10. Acceptance. Cession shall be effective upon the
16filing of an acceptance by the United States with the Governor
17of the State of Illinois in accordance with the requirements of
1840 U.S.C. 3112. Federal jurisdiction shall end whenever the
19United States shall cease to own, lease, or use for national
20purposes the lands or improvements thereon.
21 Section 15. Retention of jurisdiction. Nothing in this Act
22shall be construed to deprive the State of Illinois of any of
23its jurisdiction over the above described lands.
24 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
